Support Design Green Now on Idea Blob today!

...or at least do it by Tuesday!

My eco-buddies over at Design Green Now want to bring their event series to NYC - help support them by voting for their project on Ideablob.

Where do you get animal-free leather, ultra-light dirt, and products from trash? Design Green Now has this and more green delights at a panel series this April in NYC. I'm on one of the panel discussions along with green greats like Susan Szenasy of Metropolis, Dan Rubenstein of Surface Magazine, Serge Appel of Cook+Fox Architects, and Mitchel Joachinm of Terreform 1.

Cast your vote - it only takes 37 seconds. I think they timed it.

Send your used CDs our way!

Hey there recycling enthusiasts! We're getting ready for Earth Day month and are looking for used CDs to use in recycling projects. Obsolete data and music CDs of all kinds are welcome. If you have more than 250 of 'em, email us at moreinfo [at] replayground [dot] com and we'll arrange to have them sent to us so you don't have to pay shipping charges. If you have less than 100, but are looking for a good place to recycle them, send them to us here.

And if you're in the New York City area during April, be sure to visit us at the Bronx Zoo April 4 -19, 25, and 26 and Earth Day NY at Grand Central Station, April 24 - 25 and participate in free recycling projects. Hurray for recycling!

An organic garden on the White House lawn!

See - we had faith that the Obama's would know how to keep it local. Michelle Obama, along with some local students, will be digging up part of the White House Lawn to plant a vegetable garden! The fresh, delicious veggies will be incorporated into meals for the prez and his family. Apparently he doesn't like beets, but I hope he plants some heirloom tomatoes. Nothing beets homegrown tomatoes.

Give that skirt another go with scrap fabric yo-yos!

March is mending month at Craftzine and I swung in with this fabric yo-yo project - ready to cover that stained skirt that you just couldn't bear to get rid of. Plus the yo-yos are interchangeable so you can mix and match to all of those vintage shirts of yours. Get the how-to here.

Q: What do you get when you have lunch with a recycled jewelry artist?

A: A purse full of Barbie bodies!

At least that's what I got. My new friend Margaux Lange makes jewelry from recycled Barbie parts. And they're rockin'. Check out the smile necklaces, butt bracelets, hand brooches and more. Barbie body part jewelry is a great way to celebrate Barbie's 50th birthday.

I love it when people give me their scrap to turn into new - which is exactly why I left lunch with a purse full of Barbie bodies. So what do you think? A Barbie leg lamp - in Rockettes kick-style? A Barbie body fruit bowl?
